Searching for a Publications opportunity that will allow you to use your skills working with authors, editors, and publishers? The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) is looking for a creative individual who has a passion for print and digital publishing, editing, and proofreading to join our Science and Clinical Affairs Department. In this role, you will be the primary support to editorial and advertising functions of the Academy's two peer-reviewed scientific publications.

The American Academy of Periodontology, located just off the Mag Mile and close to Water Tower Place, is a 7,500-member professional organization for periodontists-specialists in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, and in the placement of dental implants. Reporting to the Managing Editor, Scientific Publications, your main responsibilities include editorial, advertising, and general support. Some specific responsibilities include:

  • Tracking manuscript acceptances and status of team projects.
  • Proofreading publisher's issue alerts and copyediting AAP reports.
  • Drafting content for AAP e-newsletter and ensuring journal information on AAP and publisher websites is current.
  • Inviting podcast presenters and editing audio files.
  • Screening advertisements for scientific journals and electronic member communications.
  • Reviewing a high volume of print and digital advertising materials for Annual Meeting.

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree OR a minimum of 2 to 3 years of editorial, administrative, and project support work experience.
  • Experience with or an interest in scientific research or scholarly publishing a plus.
  • Previous association or non-profit experience preferred but is not required.
  • Exceptional communication, proofreading, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with web-based programs, digital files, and other technological tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat.
