Are you a subject matter expert in periodontal coding looking for a remote position supporting members across the United States? The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) is looking for a Coding and Insurance Specialist to join our team.

What does the Coding and Insurance Specialist do?

  • Assists members by answering coding and reimbursement questions and problem solves issues with third party reimbursement
  • Answers AAP members' questions over the phone and email
  • Conducts dental and medical coding workshops specific to periodontal practices both in person and virtually
  • Develops periodontal coding and reimbursement resources
  • Serves as the staff liaison to the Patient Benefits and Advocacy Committee

The American Academy of Periodontology is a 7,500-member professional organization for Periodontists, a dental specialty for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the gums, supporting structures of the teeth and placement of dental implants. Our vision is to be the voice of Periodontists as the collaborative partner to achieve optimal oral health. The headquarters is located just off the Mag Mile in Chicago.

Who are we looking for?

  • Prior experience with periodontics insurance claims and/or procedure coding.
  • 5+ years of experience in dental office management, preferably at a Periodontics office
  • Dental assistant experience preferred
  • Knowledge of dental procedure and diagnostic codes (CDT and ICD-10-CM) related to periodontics
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals including patients, office staff, periodontists, and dental directors
  • Strong presentation skills. Experience with Zoom and/or other video conferencing platforms a plus
  • Ability to appropriately manage sensitive information
